Chair history
The Chair of Electrical Energy Technology (EET) combines three central fields of research: electrochemical energy storage and energy management systems, electrical drives and machines and electrochemical energy conversion.
The history of the Chair began in April 1973 with the appointment of Prof. Dr. Gerhard Pfaff as the first holder of the Chair of Electrical Drives and Controls. In 2000, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Piepenbreier took over as head of the Chair, reinforced from December 2007 by the appointment of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ingo Hahn. In 2008, the chair was renamed the “Chair of Electrical Drives and Machines” to reflect the expanded research spectrum.
After interim management by Prof. Dr. Ingo Hahn from 2018, the chair was taken over by Prof. Dr. Susanne Lehner in April 2024. With the realignment and integration of further research focuses, the name was changed to “Chair of Electrical Energy Technology”. Prof. Lehner’s scientific focus is particularly on electrochemical energy storage and the development of intelligent energy management systems.
Prof. Dr. Roswitha Zeis joined the team in July 2023. Her research focuses on the development of innovative electrical hydrogen systems and expands the chair’s portfolio to include pioneering energy conversion technologies.
