The fields of work of the Chair of Electrical Energy Technologyinclude the research areas of electrochemical energy storage and energy management systems, electrical drives and machines and electrochemical energy conversion. We offer research services in these areas and are involved in both publicly and industrially funded projects which are linked closely with the training of future engineers. The Chair of EET is represented in university teaching with core and specialization modules, laboratory courses and advanced seminars for students of electrical engineering, electronics and information technology, mechatronics, energy technology, electromobility and medical engineering. We support students in their first independent research activities as part of their final theses.
The EnCN Energy Award honours students for their exceptional contributions to energy research and the energy transition. Award-winning theses focus on topics such as new energy technologies, the rational use of energy, efficiency improvements and the development of practical applications.

What a night! This year, our chair was represented at both locations in Erlangen and Nuremberg during the Long Night of Science. The booths focused on diagnostics for batteries and electric drives, and the interest was enormous.
We were particularly pleased about the exciting exchange with visit...
It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to Prof. Dr. Piepenbreier, who held the Chair of Electrical Drives and Machines from 2000 to 2018.
Over this long period, Prof. Dr. Piepenbreier shaped research and teaching in the field of electric drives at FAU with extraordinary commitment and gre...
The curious minds of the children’s university KinderUni Nürnberg visited us at the Energy Campus Nürnberg! The scientific staff of the Chair of Electrical Power Engineering, Carla Marchfelder and Simon Scherer, as well as Thomas Lehmeier from the Chair of Power Electronics showed the children aged...
As part of an exciting two-day excursion, we were able to gain in-depth insights into the key technologies of the energy and mobility transition together with our students - with visits to BMW, SGS and MAN Energy Solutions.
Day 1
At BMW's Cell Manufacturing Competence Center (CMCC), we we...
